Missing persons case: SC displeased at FC IG’s absence

Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammed Chaudhry Friday said the court will task the Corp Commander to recover the missing persons, in case Inspector General of the FC keeps on shunning the court orders.

Heading a two-member bench of the Supreme Court (SC) hearing a case of law and order situation in Balochistan and missing persons, the CJP expressed displeasure over the absence of Inspector General (IG), Frontier Constabulary Balochistan, Major General Nadir Zaib in the hearing.

The Chief Justice Chaudhry queried as to why the three missing persons were not produced before the bench despite the court orders, adding the court will issue an order against the IG FC if he considers himself above the court.

The CJP remarked the court is not desirous to see the FC chief; instead, it only wants to know if the FC is going to produce the missing persons or not, adding there are evidences regarding the FC’s involvmlent in picking up people.

The CJ Chaudhry furthermore said the CCTV footages of a private hotel will lay bare the fact.

Attorney General Balochistan pleaded the court to give time till Monday for IG FC and IG Police to appear before the court.

The Chief Justice Chaudhry noted the two high-up officers will be granted time if they assure the bench of producing the missing persons, adding if they keep on lifting the people, it will invite a big slur.

“Which is greater institution than the court?” the displeased CJP remarked adding the court cannot accept the presence of Major Sohail to represent the FC.

He added the families of the missing persons pinpointed the FC; if it shirks abiding by the court order, then Corps Commander will be sought to do the needful. SAMAA
