Lyari operation: No achievement in 8 days

Staff Report

KARACHI: Lyari operation has ended suddenly but no success has been achieved by the government and police as main accused people have not been caught during the eight days’ time, SAMAA reported Friday.

On the contrary, police face huge loss but the main criminals were not arrested.

When the operation was stopped here, miscreants started attacking the police with rockets.

Inspector General Sindh Police (IG) Mushtaq Shah said that the operation in Lyari was stopped for 48 hours.

Shah added that the operation was being stopped due to the offer to surrender made by Interior Minister Rehman Malik and Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah to criminals.

Today, the SSP of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Sindh police, Chaudhry Aslam said he has not received any orders to halt the Lyari operation.

Talking to SAMAA TV, the Senior Superintendent of Sindh Police (SSP) said the crackdown on the miscreants is currently in progress and today they will launch fresh incursion into the area.

It should be mentioned here that Federal Interior Minister Rehman A. Malik announced today to bring a temporary halt to Lyari operation with 72-hour ultimatum to the mischief-mongers to surrender to the state.

The sources said the CID’s anti-terrorism unit alone is out in crackdown on miscreants in Lyari, adding CID’s investigation operation personnel are not partaking in the action despite clear-cut directives from high-ups.

Meantime, the formidable heat wave in the city is causing mounting problems to the police personnel settled in armored personnel carriers (APCs). SAMAA
