Despite 24 killings, vigorous ongoing operation; criminals still strong in Lyari

Staff Report

KARACHI: Despite 24 killings and many more injuries during ongoing vigorous operation, the criminals are still very strong in Lyari as police have been attacked by hand grenades and rockets on sixth day, SAMAA reported on Wednesday.

The police have claimed today that they have made preparation for a final round to eliminate criminals from Lyari.

Early this day, the criminals torched house of the PPP provincial minister Rafiq Engineer while tomorrow’s paper of 9th class has been cancelled, at all centers of Lyari, by the board.

During last six days’ operation, five policemen and 19 others have been killed but the local criminal mafia is still very strong and intact as its gangsters attacked the police with hand grenades and rockets this day, leaving one killed and eight including three policemen injured.

The police officials have claimed that at least eight prominent members of the criminal mafia of Lyari have been killed by the troops.

All Lyari areas’ police stations’ SHOs are present at Cheel Chowk to supervise the operation against the criminals while 100 sharp shooters have been posted on high buildings of the area to hunt the miscreants.

A provincial minister of the PPP, Shazia Murree, has said that the Lyari public supported the PPP in past and they are still with it and those who burnt PPP leaders pictures and party flags, they were not activists of the party. SAMAA
