No sign of relief for families stranded in Lyari operation

Staff Report

KARACHI: In spite of President Asif Ali Zardari’s orders, no arrangement could be made to provide a relief to families caught in battle between police and suspected gangsters at Lyari in Karachi

President Zardari called Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah late Sunday night and asked him to take all out measures in providing relief to displaced or stranded families.

Karachi South Commissioner also announced that arrangements were being made to prepare ration for 5000 families at Napier Police Station. However, there is no sign of any ration available at the said police station.

Continued gun battle between police and suspected gangsters put the residents of Lyari into a deep trouble. Hundreds of families either fled the battle or remained stranded inside their houses.

Some residents complained of food shortage. They said the government should have formed an appropriate strategy before launching of the operation. SAMAA
