Govt to begin crackdown on extortionists tonight: Malik

Staff Report

KARACHI: The government will launch a crackdown on extortionists tonight, announced Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Tuesday.

Speaking to newsmen here, Malik said “I have come to Karachi to eliminate money extortion at the command of President Zardari.”

He said a DIG-led powerful cell has been set up to deal with the bhatta mafia operating in the metropolis.

“We will curb the money extortion with the help of our coalition partners. Action will be taken if any political worker is found involved in the crime.”

The Interior Minister said operation would be launched in every extortion-hit area of the city. SAMAA
