ISLAMABAD: The former head of Mehran Bank has revealed today that under intense pressure from the then army chief Aslam Baig and president Ghulam Ishaque Khan, he arranged Rs. 1.48 billion and out of those Rs. 340 million were given to the politicians, SAMAA reported on Thursday.
Mehran Bank’s former chief Younus Habib appeared before the Supreme Court on a wheel chair this day and asked for pardon while unearthing shocking details of payments to politicians in past.
Younus Habib has stated in his statement filed in the Supreme Court today that the then chief of armed forces Mirza Aslam Baig called me and said that it is an order of the president Ghulam Ishaque Khan to arrange Rs. 350 million.
He added that Aslam Baig also arranged his meeting with the then president Ghulam Ishaque Khan in Balochistan House, Islamabad.
“When I refused and said that it is not possible for me to arrange this much money then I was kept under custody of the FIA,” Habib added, saying then I had no option but to obey the orders of the then army chief and president of the country.
Former Mehran Bank chief exposed shocking details about payments to the politicians while saying that he arranged Rs. 1.48 billion; out of those Rs. 340 million were distributed amongst the politicians and remaining Rs. 1.14 billion were invested by the agencies.
Younus Habib has claimed further in his statement that the advocate Yousuf took 20 million rupees for Altaf Hussain.
“In year 1990, the then attorney general and Ruidad Khan pressurized me for filing a case against Benazir Bhutto and Asif Ali Zadrai,” former chief of Mehran Bank added.
After attending hearing of the case, Asghar Khan’s Counsel Salman Raja said while talking to the media that now a case of treason can be proceeded against former army chief Mirza Aslam Baig. SAMAA
