Contempt case: SC direct PM Gilani to file rejoinder by March 19

Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: The cross-question on Defence and Cabinet Secretary Nargis Sethi has been completed before a seven-judge bench of the Supreme Court (SC) headed by Justice Nasirul Mulk hearing contempt case against Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, SAMAA reports Thursday.

Justice Nasirul Mulk ordered the PM Gilani to file affidavit by March 19.

Hearing the NRO Implementation case, Justice Mulk said the PM did not act upon the judicial order under the summary from Law Ministry, adding it is directly incumbent upon the PM Gilani, by way of being chief executive of the country, to implement the judicial order regardless of any summary or advice; hence, the verdict of 17-member bench should be acted upon.

Replying to a query from the bench, the PM Gilani’s counsel Aitezaz said his client may want to record his statement by appearing in person before the court.

On this, the bench remarked that the PM Gilani should file his written statement by March 19, so that arguments may be started on this from March 21.

The court further said the PM Gilani may come to the court personally on March 21, if he (PM Gilan) wants to give oral statement before the bench, adding the time for arguments on the statement could be specified later on.

Earlier, Attorney General of Pakistan Maulvi Anwarul Haq completed the cross-question of Nargis Sethi. Later on, the hearing was adjourned till March 21. SAMAA
