Trust on Zardari, Gilani: Political scramble ahead critical NA session

Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)-led government along with its allies is all set to pledge solidarity with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani vis-à-vis judiciary and an evolving standoff with the military leadership, SAMAA reports Thursday.

A crunch meeting of National Assembly will be held today at 5PM when the resolution of confidence motion will be tabled for President Zardari and PM Gilani.

It should be mentioned here President Zardari summoned the emergency session of the National Assembly following consultations with the coalition partners in view of the Supreme Court verdict in the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) case.

Sources said that the PPP and its allies are expected to pass a joint or two separate confidence moves for President Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani in the lower house’s today’s session.

In view of the developing critical scenario on political front, all parties moved into hustle to leverage the situation. Before the session, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will hold its Central Working Committee meeting at Punjab House to make important decisions.

The PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif after attending a meeting in Raiwind today, came to Model Town, Lahore to attend another significant meeting.

The ruling coalition partner Awami National Party (ANP) will hold its meeting at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House in the federal capital. Besides, Muslim League Quaid will also convene its meeting.

Later on, all parties included in the ruling coalition will sit together in a parliamentary party meeting to hammer out the strategy to adopt trust resolution for President Zardari and the PM Gilani.

According to sources, the opposition parties have careened into sync to abort any government effort to pass confidence motion. The political pundits say today’s session will somewhat clear the mist over the political horizons. SAMAA
