KARACHI: The legendary actor of Pakistani film industry Sultan Rahi is being remembered on his death anniversary today (Monday).
Sultan Mohammad popularly known as Sultan Rahi was born in 1938. He started his film career as a junior artist in 1959.
Although he struggled for a few years in the early 1960s; but could snagged some supporting roles here and here. The turning point came in 1972, when three of his films were extremely successful at the box office.
In 1975 he became an action icon for the lovers of Punjabi films. The year 1979, changed his whole life as his film (MAULA JATT) became the biggest hit Pakistan had ever seen. It broke all records and did wonders for the Pakistani Film Industry.
He is said to have appeared in more than 700 movies, and has accordingly been named in the Guinness Book of Records for the most prolific actor.
His extremely successful film career came to a tragic end on January 9, 1996, when he was shot and killed by unidentified persons in a highway robbery on G.T. road near Gujranwala. He was on his way back to Lahore from Islamabad. At the time of death, he was 58 years old. SAMAA
