PARACHINAR - Over 45 Taliban militants and two soldiers were killed in clashes in the northwestern tribal region of Kurram over the past 24 hours, local officials said.   

Helicopter gunships also pounded militant positions in the fighting that took place in different parts of the region bordering Afghanistan.   

There was no independent confirmation of the death toll.  Militants often dispute the government's version of events. AGENCIES
