Sindh washed by rains; 20 dead

KARACHI: Massive rainy season wrought havoc on Sindh and Balochistan, as at least 20 people lost their lives and 33 others sustained injuries in rain-related accidents, SAMAA reported Friday.

Meantime, Met Department forecast the rain spell coupled with thunderbolt to continue till Wednesday in Sindh. The rain spell intermittently continued for four days now in Sindh cities including Hyderabad, Badin, Shikarpur, Noushehro Feroz, Hala and Kashmore.

The low-lying areas came under water in various districts after heavy rains. Rainwater entered houses in over two dozens of villages, causing rooftops of several houses to collapse. Meantime, the incidents of electrocution caused loss of human lives.

Power supply to different areas is suspended, posing serious troubles to people.

Heavy rains accompanied with gale-force winds ran amok in various areas including district Benazirabad, Daulatpur, Qazi Ahmed Daur and Sakrand with numerous areas turned into virtual rivers.

Crops of Onion and cotton spreading over vast swathes of land were spoiled. Many mud houses caved in leaving the affected people marooned under open skies.

Meantime, hundreds of affected people staged demonstration in Qazi Ahmed village of Nawab Chandio.

The spell of light to heavy showers continued intermittently in tribal areas including North and South Waziristan Agency (SWA), Lakki Marwat, Bannu and Kirk.
