Power crisis grows as KESC faces oil blockade
Upadated on: 16 Mar 10 01:58 PM
Staff Report

KARACHI: The Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) has not been provided with gas and furnace oil yet, due to which an increase in the duration of load shedding is expected, sources said Tuesday.

The Pakistan State Oil (PSO) has refused to provide furnace oil to KESC on credit after cutting off the supply on March 11. According to the Gas Load Management Program, additional gas to KESC cannot be provided either, due to which the production of electricity is expected to be affected.

According to the KESC spokesperson, the organization has not increased the duration of load shedding so far and is trying to procure furnace oil.

MQM leader and Federal Minister Dr Farooq Sattar has contacted the Prime Minister in this regard. He told SAMAA that the Prime Minister has directed the Minister for Petroleum to procure oil for KESC from PSO.

The Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has started making efforts to overcome the current crisis. He has contacted the Petroleum Minister Naveed Qamar, requesting to provide oil to KESC. SAMAA
