US accepts Pakistan as nuclear state: US media
Upadated on: 06 Mar 10 03:09 PM
Staff Report

WASHINGTON: An American newspaper has claimed that Obama administration has accepted Pakistan as a nuclear state to counter conspiracy theories that the United States is secretly plotting to seize Pakistani nuclear weapons.

David Ignatius, a Washington Post associate editor, wrote in his column Thursday that the Obama administration is not only implementing its new Afghan policy but also wants cooperation from Islamabad for arrest of important Taliban leaders and investigation from them. According to Ignatius, Pakistani authorities say that Obama Administration had recently taken several steps to address Pakistani security concerns and to assure Pakistan that it doesn’t want to seize Pakistan’s nukes. One of these steps is to accept to “implicitly accept Pakistan’s status as a declared nuclear weapons state and thereby counter conspiracy theories that the United States is secretly plotting to seize Pakistani nukes.”

The newspaper claimed the Obama administration is also playing an important role Pak-India talks so that the relations between the two countries can be restored. SAMAA
