Upadated on: 29 Nov 09 09:42 PM
Staff Report

KARACHI: Corruption in the government is at its peak , said the senior Minister of Sindh Education Pir Mazhar Ul Haq Sunday.

He said that there are 1700 ghost schools in the province, whereas 4500 schools are closed due to lack of teachers.

"The district governments do not have the experience or the expertise to run the department of Education," he said. "Therefore, when the provincial governments get the rights of amendment of laws, the district governments will make changes in the ordinance."

He said that the provincial education department had appointed 6000 teachers on merit for the first time and had deployed them in 1400 schools. The teaching process has started since then. "Further 13000 teachers have taken the test of entry. Recruitment committees have been formed but the district governments are not taking any interest in taking the plan forward," he added. SAMAA
