16th polio case surfaces in Punjab

ISLAMABAD: Another case of polio has been identified in Jatoi near Muzaffar Garh, Multan, SAMAA learnt Thursday.

According to health department, a seven-month-old child, Kaleemullah, was confirmed to have P1 polio virus. District Health Coordinator Dr Syed Waheed-ur Rehman told SAMAA that test report of Kalimullah has been sent to health department. He said that the seven-months-old Kaleemullah was reported to have polio virus attack three months ago. After which a number of diagnostic tests were performed. The National Institute of Health, Islamabad has confirmed the presence of PI polio virus in the child.

Six cases of polio have been reported from Southern Punjab whereas 16 cases of polio have been confirmed across the province. SAMAA
