KARACHI: Balochistan minister for excise and taxation Sardar Rustam Jamali was gunned down by unidentified men in Karachi Thursday.

The attack took place in Gulistan-e Jauhar and Jamali did not use police protection while in Karachi.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that it was too early to say whether it was a target killing or not. “The investigation team headed by DIG Ghulam Qadir Thebo will submit a report within the next four days,” he assured, while confirming the minister did not use protocol.

Punjab Chief Minister, Nawaz Sharif and Zulifqar Khosa all condemned the killing. Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik said that it could have been a robbery.

Rustam Jamali was 46 years old and became an MPA as an independent candidate from Jaffarabad. He worked as a landlord.

CCPO Waseem Ahmed said that his department had capable police officials who could solve the mystery. “An investigation will be conducted and eyewitnesses will be used,” he said, adding that a target killing could not be ruled out.

He is the son of Sardar Yar Mohammad Jamali and a cousin of former prime minister, Mir Zaaffarullah Khan Jamali.

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani condemned the killing and has ordered an inquiry. SAMAA
