Faulty grids in Karachi repaired
Upadated on: 08 Jul 09 06:12 AM
Staff Report

KARACHI: The 12 grid stations in Karachi that had malfunctioned on Tuesday night, were repaired on Wednesday. Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) sources said the city was facing shortfall of 150 MW electricity and an hour long load shedding was being carried out after every three to four hour interval.

MASSIVE POWER OUTAGE

Around 40 percent of the city had plunged into darkness on Tuesday night, due to a technical fault that occurred in the Pipri circuit.

Around 12 of the city’s grid stations, including Gulshan-e Iqbal, South and North Korangi, Airport, Bin Qasim and Civil Aviation, were rendered non-functional resulting in a major power breakdown.

According to a KESC spokesman, the Garden and Jacob Lines grid stations were also shut down due to faults in the high tension lines, while a technical fault was also reported at the Korangi grid station.

On the other hand, more than 5,000 connections were severed in Manghopir and Sultanabad for non-payment of dues.

In Korangi, residents took to the streets, burning tyres and chanting anti-KESC slogans, when a high tension line fell down, damaging several houses. SAMAA
